ABOUT US

Since its original launch, LJMU Student Radio (formerly Looprevil Radio) has progressed from being just a studio of unused equipment to a fully functioning radio station, where today we have a full 5 day timetable from 9am-9pm. The society was shortlisted for the Best New Society award in the 2011 LSU Loves You Awards.

So, if you’re looking for something a bit different out of a radio station then make sure to listen to LJMU Student Radio. With what is on offer, there is a show out there for everyone.

WHY YOU SHOULD JOIN US

LJMU Student Radio is Liverpool John Moores University’s one and only student radio station. We’re a station that brings you original personalities and fabulous music, and if you’re lucky enough to broadcast on our station, you’ll enjoy our bi-monthly socials too.

Joining the station is a fantastic way to meet new people and to essentially, make new friends. Being a part of the station will mean your voice will be heard, quite literally, across campus and if you have great new ideas, you can potentially gain a following of loyal listeners.

This year we’re looking to expand our brand and engage those who want to try something new. We’re also looking to make a few changes about how we’re run and we want you to be a part of that change – we’re looking for new people with some form of radio talent, whether that be playing future popular artists or keeping people’s attention, we’re looking for punctual, reliable students to have fun presenting their own shows.

This is an opportunity to increase your knowledge of the radio industry and to develop other skills such as creativity, confidence, initiative and communication skills. It is lots of fun and you’re bound to meet a whole variety of different people and make new friends! Presenting on LJMU Student Radio will also look great on your CV and to potential employers.

You can join our group here or keep an eye out for us at the Freshers’ Fair. We look forward to meeting you.

Dominic Meakin

Manager

Hi there, I’m Dom Meakin and I am the station manager at LJMU Student Radio. I have been involved in student radio since my first year at John Moores and it continues to be something I am deeply passionate about. My show runs every Tuesday from 5-6pm and involves a mix of older and modern music across all genres.  Each show serves to highlight a specific genre or artist, I have done shows focusing on Prog Rock, Nu-Metal and Smooth Jazz as well as shows on Pink Floyd, The Smiths, Deftones and Led Zeppelin. As station manager it is my job to make sure everything runs smoothly and that all the members are having the best possible time. We are always on the lookout for new talent so if you are interested in joining be sure to send me an email.

I am also in my final year studying English Literature so if you want any book recommendations I am here for you!

Freya Mowbray

Assistant Manager

Hi I’m Freya Mowbray and I’m the assistant manager for LJMU student radio. My show is called ‘female of the species’ where I choose a female artist every week and play a few of her songs. In between these songs I’ll play a mixture of anything from the 60’s to modern day grime - my music taste is very varied! My other interests include badminton, going to gigs and pub quizzes. I’m very excited to be part of the committee and to make some new friends who love music as much as me!
