Hollywood’s Bleeding is the latest offering from American rapper/singer/songwriter Post Malone following on from the release of Beerbongs and Bentleys last year. Post Malone’s rise to fame has been astronomical since the release of his viral track ‘White Iverson’ back in 2015. Both his debut album Stoney (2016) and the aforementioned sophomore record Beerbongs and Bentleys (2018) provided listeners with catchy pop vocal melodies and trap style beats all with an added rock’n’roll bravado. The mediocre lead single ‘Sunflower’ offered listeners a glossy pop tune that is immediately forgettable but serviceable. ‘Sunflower was followed by ‘Wow’, another underwhelming offering. However third lead single ‘Goodbyes’ brought things around with a song that is both catchy, atmospheric and has an excellent feature verse from Young Thug.
Hollywood’s bleeding is certainly a varied album, and there’s plenty of genre-hopping across the LP; there are certainly a few bangers amongst the album however there are even more songs that just fall flat. ‘St.Tropez’ and ‘Staring at the Sun’ stand out as the most generic and forgettable of the bunch however the Ozzy Osbourne feature on ‘Take What you Want’ brings it back with an unexpected high point for the album.
With a total of 17 songs Hollywood’s Bleeding often feels disjointed and lacking cohesion. Admittedly a lot is going on within this record but sadly most of it fails to land and the record feels bloated with filler tracks and half-baked ideas.
